What is that?
The state of career education
I don’t know who is more angry about this post:
Plumbers (what is that tool and where do pipes lead)
Students (yes this was posted by department of education)
Artists (your skills dont matter)
Career educators …
I think everyone is angry….why have they not took it down? It reminds me of when Barbie’s website launched the new I can be dolls in the 2010-2015 era if I remember right. I was pretty aggressively stalking their website as they were rolling out curriculum, a story for another day, and there was a picture of different dolls with their career title and a few choice slogans about what they did.
Guess what Barbie Teacher’s caption said. Common, type your guess ……I’ll Wait……
Get ready for it. Whoever was building the website literally said……
I can be a teacher. teachers pass out motorboards.
Yep.
If you don’t even know what that is…..
it’s a graduation cap.
When we do career education as an after thought it makes the entire education process kinda irrelevant. I often feel more money is spent hiring contractors to talk about and study how to market the workforce needs and importance of education instead of revamping our educational system to spend 13 years or preferably less helping students discover their interests and learn about how they want to contribute to the world.
The work I do is deeply personal to me and I get big ideas that often make me experience inertia. I am in that state right now but working through it.
I have make a me projects to finish, a new series I wanted to start, and a lot of long form videos i need to make, but posts like this infuriate me because people are getting paid to really market the service industries and trades and Apprenships right now because they think there is a lack of interested people to fill the needs but instead there are a lack of accessiable programs to provide people with opportunity to fill these roles. People are sitting in offices making decisions about social media campaigns or billboards or catered lunches in hotel conference rooms and collecting on grant funds and referalls to often connect 10-20 people a year to work.
That money needs to be spent on giving someone housing and child care and food and transportation to be able to focus and just have their needs meet while they train. Many people see that as government assistance but what do we call giving people grants from the government to market peogeams that often only serve 10-15 people a year by just informing them about something that they can do?
I digress……
This is why I work independent.
I have a lot of work to do and things to share …I promise it’s coming ….I just don’t know when. Can I count on uou to hang I there and if new browse my archives.
