College Majors and Educational Training Programs: Video Games
Not everyone who loves games wants to code, check out some other angles of this industry.
Ever beat a game and watch the credits? Unfortunately I don’t get to beat many games as many of the games my son and I play are on Steam and have a small development team or are rouge games we play over and over and they have different character builds each time. We are working our way through Split Fiction and when we win, I can’t wait to read the credits.
If you were to read the credits of popular games like Fortnite, check out this list of names for who contributed to the development, it takes like 40 minutes for the names to scroll through. That’s insane. Their list doesn’t show job title though.
Something like Mario shows job titles and is a great way to see the expansive industry. So many parents think it is risky to go into gaming as their kids may never make it big and code their own best selling game, but working for huge franchises, there is something for everyone.
My own son is learning a little bit of coding, working on some video editing, and he loves thinking about game rules which I think he would really enjoy digging into to create rouge games. Time will tell but I know this is his industry, something with games, he doesn’t have to figure it all out yet, he just has to know this is his passion and keep trying things to see what he likes and doesn’t like.
Below are some College Major and Educational Training Program Trading Cards to get you started thinking about how to break into the industry. This is a growing resource I will continue to ad to.
